Yara Argueta, Guatemalan entrepreneur and mentor, visited the campus last February to share with MBA students a special class on the search for personal purpose in professional life. Yara was the protagonist of this "live case" where she made the students reflect on the construction of their own life plan.

For Yara Argueta, being able to offer her time and knowledge to support and impact social causes is a characteristic that is in her DNA. For this reason, and in order to share her experience with the MBA students at INCAE, Yara visited the campus on February 13 to present a "live case" where she presented a personal challenge she had to face at a key moment in her career.

During 2016, Yara had reached a decade of success as CEO of Grupo Solid in Guatemala, while leading social impact projects. She had launched the CAVIDA Foundation, to support talented young people in their higher education and was also the Executive President of Voces Vitales, where she supported and empowered women to grow professionally. The challenge of the live case revolved around a key decision for Yara, as she had to decide whether to stay as CEO of Grupo Solid, or focus her full time on social organizations.

The students listened to Yara's motivations, and analyzed different perspectives to make the decision. Afterwards, they shared their recommendations with the guest in a plenary session led by Professor Prado. Finally, Yara presented the decision she made, giving real-time feedback to the students about her recommendations.

Yara left as a message to the students:

...First identify what you are very good at, and build on that, develop the different stages of your life. In your life plans you must establish milestones, and know what you want to achieve. You must know how many lives you want to impact, how many lives you want to help, and structure your life plans around that...

The Strachan Chair was founded by entrepreneur, philanthropist and former Chancellor of INCAE, Harry W. Strachan. It is funded by the Strachan Foundation and friends of Bain Capital, with the objective of promoting social investment strategies. Periodically, the Chair organizes live cases with entrepreneurs from the region who are generating social and environmental impact, so that they can share their experiences and lessons learned with the students of INCAE .
