After 26 years of dedicated work, Gilma Sandoval, beloved faculty assistant at INCAE, is saying goodbye to begin a new stage in her life: retirement. In this interview, she shares with us her experiences, memories and emotions after having been a key player in our community.

  1. You are retiring after so many years at INCAE. How do you feel?

Gilma confesses that she has "mixed feelings". The years at INCAE have left her with many memories and friendships, and although she has cried at more than one farewell, she is also excited about this new stage, where she will be able to do things that her work did not allow her to do before. Her career began in 1988, and after a break to take care of her children, she returned in 2007, providing an impeccable service.

  1. What has been the key to building such special relationships with your colleagues and teachers?

For Gilma, the key has been to work with passion. She believes that when you enjoy what you do, everything flows better, including the relationship with your colleagues and teachers. She tells us that she has always been proactive in her tasks, seeking to anticipate the needs of others, which has facilitated collaboration and harmony in the team.

  1. That famous carrot cake! What's the secret?

Gilma reveals that her success in the kitchen, including her famous carrot cake, lies in cooking with love. For her, each ingredient carries a special touch of love, which ensures that the result is always delicious. " When you do things with love, they turn out great," she says.

  1. What plans do you have now to enjoy more time with your grandchildren?

Gilma feels very blessed with her four grandchildren, Mateo, Amanda, Samantha and Lucia (due in November). She excitedly tells us about her plans to spend more time with them, especially helping her son in San Carlos, when Lucia is born. She is also ready to continue spoiling them with her famous recipes.

  1. This year, INCAE celebrates its 60th anniversary. What does it mean to you to have been part of this history?

Gilma feels honored to have been part of INCAE during such important celebrations as the 40th, 50th and now 60th anniversary of the institution. For her, INCAE is a big family, and being able to have contributed to its growth is one of her greatest achievements.

  1. Do you have any memorable moments or achievements in your years at INCAE?

Beyond work achievements, Gilma highlights the details of the institution towards its employees: Mother's Day celebrations, Christmas parties and support in personal moments. She believes that these types of gestures make INCAE a unique place to work.

  1. What message would you like to leave to your colleagues and the new generations at INCAE?

To her colleagues, Gilma encourages them to continue working with the same dedication and affection that always characterized her. To the new generations, she reminds them how fortunate they are to be part of INCAE, an institution where they learn a lot and in which everyone must do their bit to ensure that it continues to be a leader in the region.

 Thank you, Gilma!

We thank Gilma for all she has done for INCAE. We say goodbye with a heart full of gratitude, wishing her the best in this new stage of her life, and of course, we hope to try another of her famous carrot cakes soon!
