Executing a project that delivers results requires a series of fundamental steps to achieve the proposed objectives. There are two approaches used when working on specific projects: systematic and systemic. What is each approach?

The systematic approach represents the linear sequence of events. Along the way "branches" may appear, but it is always a sequence of steps that we need to perform.

A very general example is the logical sequence of project execution processes: We formulate objectives, we find requirements, we organize activities, we acquire deliverables, and at the end we have products and then we see what the results are.

The systemic approach has as its main point the concept of the system, which is a set of interrelated elements with a common objective.

In projects it is relatively easy to formulate the common objective, which can be formulated at two levels: The level of the product that appears at the end of any project and the level of results that we expect when the product starts working.

One important thing is the characteristic of the system, its elements are interrelated. Any project is a system because we can break it down into different subsystems and, from a technical and management point of view, it is part of the higher level system, so it is also a subsystem.

Regardless of the thoughts or approaches used, the main objective of a project is to produce the agreed deliverables, especially the final products, on the required date, within budget and within acceptable risk parameters.

Based on this, we can see three levels of project objectives:

  • Sub-objectives linked to the project's deliverables
  • Objectives with the product of the project
  • Meta-objectives related to project outcomes of the project output, especially the impact of the performance of this output.

What is the most important thing in any project? There are several answers: human resources, money, planning... and the product?

Indira Gandhi said: "The world demands results. Don't tell others about your labor pains, show them the child".

The product of the project and its outcome are not the same thing. That is why our answer is RE-SUL-TA-DO. The reason for the existence of projects is the search for results from the operation of its products. The product or service is a final deliverable of the project, it is a means to achieve results.

The result of the project is a consequence of the operation of the product or service (final deliverable) in the company, in the market, in society, in the country or in the world.
