Institutional Communication

To speak of José Nicolás Marín is synonymous with wisdom and passion for his work. Originally from Nicaragua and with roots in Costa Rica, this teacher is one of the most beloved pillars of INCAE, contributing to the education of hundreds of leaders for Latin America and the world.

His professional background has been built through studies in various areas, along with years of experience in different private companies. His academic achievements include a bachelor's degree in industrial relations, a master's degree in business administration and a doctorate from Harvard. Nicolas was the first Central American linked to INCAE to study at Harvard.

Once he graduated from this prestigious university, he received several job offers in the United States, but he discovered that his purpose in life was not only linked to money. What really makes him happy is transmitting knowledge and contributing to the formation of new generations of Incaístas, who, in turn, will create a positive impact in their countries.

INCAEa long trip that I would repeat

Prof. Marin has written 4 books, in collaboration with other colleagues, always leading the initiative and the development of the content.

"One of those books, which deals with strategic investments, has sold 23,000 copies. That fills me with great pride because 23 thousand copies is not easy, especially that they are sold, not given away. And there is another book on mergers and acquisitions that has sold 9,000 copies," the professor points out.

On his way through INCAE he has created many friendships, mentioning especially three people who are no longer with us, but who were his colleagues and teaching partners on several occasions: Werner Ketelhöhn, Francisco de Paula Gutiérrez and Luis Sanz. "With all of them I worked in research, consulting and teaching," he stressed.

He describes his 55+ years at INCAE as a journey full of learning. "If I were given the opportunity to do it again, I would gladly do it," Nicolas said.

"I might not be on INCAE and be making a lot more money, but money is not everything in life, it is only a means to help oneself. My vocation, my cathedral, my church is the classroom. I feel happy and grateful to have developed my personality by teaching others," the teacher mentioned.

For Nicolás, what has germinated INCAE throughout these 60 years of history are educators without borders. "Just as there are doctors without borders, there are also educators without borders, who have the ability to teach in different countries. Always insisting on a high level of excellence and quality," he concluded.
