He is Professor of Strategy and Competitiveness at INCAE. He received his DBA from Harvard, where his research was supervised by Prof. Michael E. Porter. He holds an M.S.C. in Industrial Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Costa Rica.
He is a research associate at Harvard Business School's Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, and has been an adjunct professor at Tufts University in Boston. He was dean of the master's programs at INCAE and was director of the Research Center at INCAE. He is currently the lead professor of the Health Care Group. He has published in Harvard Business Review Latin America, Journal of Economics & Management Strategy and Journal of Economic Geography.
He has been a consultant to companies and governments, and has served on several boards of directors of corporate groups in the region. He has been a member of the Presidential Commission on Competitiveness in Nicaragua.

He is the lead professor of the Health Care Group, an interdisciplinary faculty group that seeks to improve efficiency in the health sector in the region through the application of management techniques. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Burned Children's Association of Nicaragua.
Prof. Ketelhöhn has been a consultant to companies and governments. He is a member of the board of directors of Grupo Corporativo Perez in Panama and of Café Soluble in Nicaragua.
He has been a member of the Presidential Commission on Competitiveness in Nicaragua.
Among his publications are: Who is Innovating in Mexico (Harvard Business Review Latin America, 2009), The Hospitals of Central America (INCAE Business Review, 2012), Geographic Concentration, Knowledge Spillovers, and Growth in the Evolution of the U.S. Advertising Industry (Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, 2002) and Knowledge Spillovers in the US Semiconductor Industry (Journal of Economic Geography, 2007).
His research focuses on the effect of clusters on firm performance and innovation, and hospital management in Central America.
