Being the head of an organization does not mean commanding and sitting back and waiting for results. Today's market demands dynamic managers, capable of being integral leaders who transmit confidence to their subordinates.
For that to happen, the leader needs to have a lot of self-confidence, to leave fear behind and to be a very self-assured person, to allow the talent within to emerge.
"From fear and control to trust and commitment" is a slogan of the management by trust model, explained by José María Gasalla, guest professor at INCAE Business School, which makes it essential to inspire not with words, but with behavior and conduct.
Self-confidence + 7C are the key elements that Gasalla highlights to generate a good synergy in the organization he leads, thinking about achieving personal and collective objectives that will be reflected in the profitability and success of the business.
These are the C's of self-confidence that every leader should put into practice in his company:
Whatever position you occupy, especially if it is in management or on boards of directors, you must be excellent at what you do. You must strive to be the best, to always achieve maximum performance in your functions.
Respect others (colleagues, employees, customers), listen to them, take their opinions into account, legitimize them as an important part of the organization. Do not close yourself off or focus only on yourself, but also take others into account.
To always act with the truth, not to have hidden cards. Be transparent when expressing opinions, giving ideas, working for the benefit of the organization.
Always keep your word. If you have said that the meeting starts at 9 a.m., then start at that time. We must set an example, we must be serious in what we do and say.
What you say to others, apply to yourself. Example is the greatest educational and leadership tool we have. If we ask something of others, it is because we are capable of doing it ourselves.
Being consistent over time, aligned with values, aligning behaviors with values for better management.
It means that you have to say what needs to be said, to be assertive. You must have the courage to say what the other person does not like. You have to know how to make decisions thinking about the good of the organization and not whether I look good to people.
Trust is the key element of any human interrelationship and if we can be ourselves, we can be assertive leaders who make the organization grow in an integral way.
