On March 16 in the city of San José, the Best Central American Companies program - MECA, together with Deloitte, Grupo Promerica and INCAE Business School held a seminar for Costa Rican entrepreneurs focused on continuous improvement.
Continuous improvement must be in the DNA of companies and reinvent themselves; it must be part of the business model of companies seeking to achieve operational excellence, which will be the engine that drives local companies in the region. In order to contribute to this end, and provide companies with an external and totally free perspective, since 2021 the Best Companies program has been promoted in Central America, hand in hand with Deloitte, Grupo Promerica and INCAE Business School.
"MECA drives continuous improvement by identifying areas of opportunity and sharing best practices from the business community, not only in the Central American region, but globally. It is an application of the Kaizen method (Kaizen, Kai = zen change = good)," says Pilar Ruiz de Chávez, Deloitte Partner and Leader of Best Companies in Latin America.

In addition to promoting their development, MECA seeks to recognize the operational excellence of private medium-sized companies in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic that stand out for their management and financial performance, through a process of continuous improvement that seeks to guide the path of the companies participating in the program, providing them with a free feedback report prepared by a multidisciplinary team of experts, in which the main strengths and areas of opportunity are identified, as well as a regional comparison of the company in relation to the industry.
"It is important to note that all companies that complete the documentation process, regardless of the result, will receive this comprehensive diagnosis of their company, which will be vital to reinvent themselves and make strategic decisions that contribute to growth in all areas of the organization," said Diana Espinoza, Leader of Best Central American Companies.
"Life itself demands continuous improvement and companies are not exempt from this dynamism, and those that are not immersed in processes of improvement, of evolution, of achieving efficiencies, are simply left behind because the market, the world itself is becoming more and more dynamic. That is why at Deloitte we are always one step ahead and with our sponsorship of the MECA program we ratify our commitment to help the continuous transformation of our Central American medium-sized companies," says Carla Coghi, Managing Partner of Deloitte for Central America and the Dominican Republic.

To participate in the third edition of MECA, Costa Rican companies must register before April 15 on the web page: www.mejoresempresasdelatinoamerica.com/MECA. There is no cost to participate in any of the stages of the program, and to do so, companies must only comply with the following requirements:
"For Banco Promerica, the regional MECA program is of utmost importance because of the impact on our clients' local companies that are part of the process. The program allows them to diagnose and undergo continuous improvement to achieve better performance in their management under the strict standards of organizations such as Deloitte and INCAE, alliances that contribute to our commitment to achieve the sustainable development goals of the United Nations," said Federico Chavarría Vargas, Deputy Business Manager, Banco Promerica Costa Rica.

MECA is sponsored by Deloitte, Grupo Promerica and INCAE Business School, which have an active participation in the program, not only as sponsors, but also in the counseling that participating companies will receive, where a multidisciplinary group of experts from the three entities are responsible for providing guidance, identify the main strengths and areas of opportunity of each company, accompanied by the methodology of the program, which is the result of the thirty years of experience of the program worldwide, being a working model that demonstrates how a company generates "value" and what actions should be taken to improve their results through five drivers:
"Continuous improvement is a business philosophy that focuses on constantly increasing the quality of products and services, process efficiency and customer satisfaction. This philosophy is key to the success of any company, especially in today's competitive environment. MECA seeks to do just that: identify, recognize and reward companies that are excelling in their commitment to continuous improvement," says Bernard Kilian, Dean of Faculty and Director of Residential MBAs at INCAE Business School.
