We are pleased to announce the recent publication of an article entitled "Bank concentration, urban development and firm access to credit in Latin America", in the prestigious Finance Research Letters Journal. This study, conducted by our distinguished professor Mahsa Memarian together with her co-authors Prof. Alberto Trejos, PhD student Sara Benetti and researcher Sofia Rodriguez Chaves, sheds light on a crucial issue in the Latin American financial landscape.

The article, available online with limited time open access[HERE], is part of the special issue on "Sustainable Finance" in the Finance Research Letters Journal (FRL). It examines the effects of urban characteristics on access to commercial credit in the region. Using a new database constructed to assess how the development potential of urban centers affects the impact of bank concentration on financing in Latin America, the study reveals fascinating results.

The findings show that the development potential of the cities where firms operate plays a crucial role in the relationship between bank concentration and firms' accessibility to credit. In addition, it helps explain firm-level differences in access to capital. This study provides a deeper understanding of financial dynamics in Latin America and has important implications for urban and economic development in the region.

We are proud of the work of our researchers and the impact their research has on the academic and business world. This article is a testament to INCAE 's commitment to research excellence and its contribution to the advancement of knowledge in key areas such as sustainable finance.
